"The Cattle are Lowing" Christmas Card

Hi, everyone!  Welcome back!  I don't know about you, but I love finding new ways to use the stamp sets I have.  My favorite verse of the Christmas song "Away in a Manger" starts out "The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes".  That was the inspiration for this card.

For the background, I took a piece of 4 1/4 by 5 1/2 white cardstock and very heavily applied Tim Holtz Distress Inks in Black Soot, Seedless Preserves, and Blueprint Sketch to it, leaving room at the bottom to later apply tinted embossing paste,  After the ink was dry, I used a direct-to-paper technique to apply Versamark Ink to the inked areas and sprinkled Stardust Transparent Embossing Powder by Stamp N Stuff over it.  You can use any sparkle embossing powder you may have.  After shaking off the excess powder into a coffee filter I heat set the powder and set that aside to cool while I worked on the rest of the elements for my card.

I stamped the star from the Peace stamp set from Little Acres Creations on a piece of yellow cardstock and applied a layer of Liquitex Iridescent Medium that I found in the Art Supply section of the craft store over the star.  After that dried, I cut it out.

I stamped the Baby Jesus from the Peace stamp set and the cow from the Hay There set on watercolor paper with Jet Black Archival Ink and watercolored both images using Distress makers and water and fussy cut those images out as well.

For the ground, I pressed some ink from my Walnut Stain Distress Ink Pad onto a soak-proof paper plate, mixed it with some embossing paste, and applied it to the card with a palette knife.  After the embossing paste dried, I adhered the cow and the star to the panel with Tombow Mono Multi Glue, and used foam tape to attach Baby Jesus.  It looks like the cow is looking down on the Christ Child and smiling, as I'm sure all of the animals were that night.

I hope you enjoyed this card.  Please join me and many talented crafters on our Little Acres Creations Facebook group and head over to YouTube to subscribe to Creative ChelleBear's channel for lots of inspiration.
